We are thrilled to announce that Project Ropa has received its’ first grant from The Pollination Project! The funds will help us eventually purchase and retrofit a truck into a mobile walk-in clothing closet. The Pollination Project provides seed grants to people around the world and their projects that create a more sustainable and compassionate world.
Founded in 2016 by Caitlin Adler, Project Ropa began by redistributing unwanted clothing donations from local charities with the goal of using the remaining clothes to one day stock a mobile pop-up shop. Since then we have taken the concept to the streets and now provide clean clothes and other basic necessities to homeless individuals at weekly pop-up events in tandem with Lava Mae, a mobile shower organization.
To date, Project Ropa has directly provided clothing to 1,500 homeless individuals, prom outfits to more than 100 teenagers and job interview outfits to over 500 people.
