June Newsletter: Pride, Purpose, and 10 Years of Project Ropa

Dear Community Supporters,

June was a month of connection, generosity, and gratitude. As Los Angeles marked Pride Month, we were reminded that the work of dignity and belonging is never finished, and that clothing is one of the most immediate ways we affirm a person’s sense of self. For people experiencing homelessness, having clean, well-fitting clothes that reflect their identity is not a small thing. It is the difference between feeling seen and feeling invisible. We are also deeply grateful for the community that surrounds Project Ropa. Because of your generosity, we raised $15,000 in June, funding that goes directly to keeping our Mobile Clothing Closet on the road and our shelves stocked for the people who need us most.

With gratitude,
The Project Ropa Team

Celebrating Pride Month

By Christopher Street West Association Inc. – lapride.org

Every first and third Friday, our Grab and Go program joins the community at Genevieve’s Garden, where we share a meal before helping people select clothing for everything from daily wear to Pride celebrations. It is one of the places where we encounter the most LGBTQIA+ individuals we serve, and the conversations that happen there remind us why this work matters. Choosing an outfit for a Pride event, when you are also navigating homelessness, is an act of resilience and joy, and we are honored to be part of that moment.

Thank You For Your Generosity in June

Thanks to an outpouring of support from donors across our community, Project Ropa raised $15,000 in June. These funds are already at work, keeping our Mobile Clothing Closet operating across Los Angeles and ensuring that the people who rely on us continue to receive the clothing, shoes, and hygiene essentials they need. If you were one of the people who gave, thank you. Your generosity made a real difference at a critical moment.

Ten Lives. One Mission. Countless Lives.

This summer, Project Ropa celebrates its tenth anniversary, and we find ourselves both humbled by how far we have come and energized by how much further we intend to go. Over the past decade, we have sorted more than 300 tons of donated clothing, distributed over 1.2 million garments, diverted more than 170 tons of textiles from landfills, and served more than 75,000 Angelenos. None of that happened without you.

We are planning a community celebration this fall in Los Angeles, and we hope you will join us. Details on the date and location are coming very soon. This milestone belongs to every volunteer, donor, partner, and neighbor who has believed in the idea that clothing is a basic human right.
