Fall 2025 Newsletter

This November, as the holidays approach, we’re reminded that clothing is dignity, safety, and belonging. With the SNAP shutdown forcing families to stretch every dollar, more neighbors are choosing between food and basic hygiene. Thanks to you, this year Project Ropa has given 124,000 garments a second life and helped restore dignity to over 5,500 neighbors. Demand is surging—130+ organizations at 190+ service sites remain on our waitlist for clothing and hygiene product supplies. As a basic-needs nonprofit, we don’t qualify for state or federal funding and are often overlooked by traditional funders—even as need rises.

We’re working to have clothing classified as “essential” in California to unlock sustainable funding for organizations like ours. In the meantime, your gift keeps our mobile wardrobes rolling—fuel in the tank, new socks and undergarments, and quality clothing delivered to those who need it most. The stakes are real. Earlier this month, we heard from Sherrie, a disabled senior:

“I’m very low on clothes (none clean or warm for night) and have only flip-flops as it gets cold. My food stamps were confirmed not to come due to the shutdown… I have severe food allergies, so I need to shop off my card, not at food pantries, to stay away from eggs/peanuts/soy. Can you please provide me with clothing and hygiene products?”

Giving Tuesday is December 2. If you’re able, please make a donation today to help us meet this surge in need. We’re honored to be featured in Target Circle™—please consider selecting Project Ropa there to direct additional support our way. Looking ahead, 2026 marks our 10-year anniversary. We’ve come a long way, but demand for clothing and hygiene essentials continues to outpace our resources. Please give now—help us restore dignity and empower lives, one outfit at a time.

Clothing is Essential – Help Us Advocate for Change

Clothing is vital for individuals experiencing homelessness—it provides protection, boosts self-esteem, and supports personal health. Yet, it is not classified as an essential service in California, meaning basic needs organizations like ours do not qualify for significant funding, limiting access to necessary clothing for those in need.

Why This Matters:

  • Many homeless individuals struggle to access clothing essentials.
  • We have a waitlist of over 130 organizations across 190+ locations in Los Angeles requesting clothing support.
  • Many of these organizations receive government funding that we do not qualify for.

We need your help! Sign our petition to advocate for clothing to be recognized as an essential resource. Together, we can ensure those in need have access to this basic necessity.

Clothing is a human right. Help make it official.

Save The Date – Giving Tuesday is December 2nd

This #GivingTuesday, your gift to Project Ropa restores dignity when it’s needed most. With the SNAP shutdown straining family budgets, more neighbors are forced to choose between food and basic hygiene. We meet people where they are with our mobile clothing closet, and we equip outreach teams, shelters, and schools with our grab-and-go packs, hygiene kits, and bulk supplies of clothing and hygiene products from our community clothing & hygiene bank. Every clean outfit and hygiene kit helps someone show up to a job interview, medical appointment, or housing intake feeling seen, clean, and confident.

Demand is rising—and support is needed year-round, not just today. As a basic-needs nonprofit that does not receive government funding, we rely on our community to keep vans fueled, shelves stocked, and volunteers equipped. If you’re able, please donate today or start a monthly gift to sustain this work in the months ahead. Together, we can keep our neighbors warm, cared for, and ready for what’s next.
