This month we were fortunate to be the recipient of a summer clothing drive organized by Subaru Love Promise, Sierra Subaru of Monrovia and 710AM ESPN Los Angeles. Organizing a company clothing drive is a great way to get staff and customers involved in helping those in need in the community.

We are so excited to be partnering with Ridwell when they officially launch in Los Angeles later this year!

Ridwell is a subscription service that collects hard-to-recycle items from residences and partners with organizations to reuse or recycle the items. Earlier this month they did a soft launch in Santa Monica and collected clothing, shoes and hygiene products from residences which were dropped off at our warehouse. We look forward to our continued partnership with them, which will help us be able to provide more people in need with clothing and hygiene essentials.

Volunteer Spotlight

Nikki has been volunteering with Project Ropa since the beginning of this year at our warehouse in Gardena.

“Hello there! I’m Nikki, a born-and-raised crazy cat lady with a deep passion for helping my neighborhood stray cats. Currently, I have twelve feline friends that I’ve either adopted or regularly care for. While I can be a bit of a homebody—spending my free time gaming, creating art, or teaching myself random skills like juggling—my journey to volunteering began after facing personal challenges last year that resulted in a couple of nervous breakdowns. I sought fulfillment and healing, and found that volunteering could provide that.

I strongly believe in charity, and one cause that truly matters to me is combating homelessness. Through volunteering, I strive to make a positive impact in the lives of those affected by homelessness. Project Ropa has given me that opportunity, allowing me to work alongside other compassionate people for a good cause.” – Nikki C.

If you are interested in volunteering with us at our warehouse or service sites please email us at: volunteer@projectropa.org.

Earlier this month we provided The Little Tokyo Business Association with 100 of our clothing essentials grab and go packs for their Community Care Day serving the unhoused in Skid Row in partnership with LTBA Foundation, City Council District 14 and Los Angeles Department of Sanitation. Our clothing essentials grab and go packs contain a clean shirt, socks and pair of underwear.

We frequently give these packs out at our direct services and to our community partners. Underwear and socks are especially hard items for people in need to obtain. Which is why we make sure to include both in our clothing packs as well as a clean shirt. It may not seem like much, but to someone in need these items can help restore dignity and confidence and open doors to better opportunities.
