April Newsletter: Earth Month Updates from Project Ropa 🌍

Dear Community Supporters,

April was a meaningful month for Project Ropa as we deepened our commitment to sustainability and community impact during Earth Month. From participating in Climate Week events across Los Angeles to continuing our direct service work, we’ve seen firsthand how critical access to clothing and resources is for individuals working toward stability and employment. These moments of connection and collaboration reinforce the importance of circular solutions in fashion and the power of community-driven change.

As we look ahead, we’re excited about opportunities to grow our impact—including our nomination for Lazy Acres Envirotokens, which opens for voting on April 22. With your continued support, we can expand access to essential items, reduce textile waste, and create pathways to opportunity for those we serve. Thank you for being part of this work.

With gratitude,
The Project Ropa Team

Climate Week Recap

We were proud to participate in three impactful Climate Week events last week, each highlighting the intersection of sustainability, policy, and community engagement. On April 13, we joined CPSC for a “Design for Compliance: Textile EPR in California” workshop, contributing to important conversations around policy and producer responsibility. On April 14, we partnered with Roboro at UCLA for “Buy Your Values: People, Planet & Fashion,” an interactive marketplace featuring sustainable brands, hands-on activations like clothing swaps, upcycling, and zine-making, and tools like the Sustainability Passport to encourage climate-conscious consumer behavior.

We continued the momentum on April 18 at West LA College, partnering with Climate Designers for the Climate Arts Festival as part of Climate Palooza. This immersive, full-day event brought together over 30 organizations across art, culture, and climate, engaging the community through workshops, creative expression, and education around textile waste and environmental action. Together, these events underscored both the urgency and the creative potential in reimagining fashion systems and advancing climate solutions through community-driven experiences.

Interested in getting involved? We’re always looking for volunteers to support our work in sustainability and community impact—join us and be part of the movement.
